Gynaecology and obstetrics

This department is made up of a highly specialised team of doctors, nurses and midwives to provide complete medical care at every stage of a woman´s life.

The team of professionals offer patients a comprehensive care service, including a wide range of consultation and treatment options from preventative check-ups to the most advanced diagnosis and treatment options for obstetric and gynaecological problems for all ages.

The department also provides regular pregnancy check-ups which include various diagnostic and screening procedures to identify any potential problems with the foetus as well as assuring that it is growing and developing as expected.

We also care for the mother´s health, detecting and treating any maternal complications that could arise. Our organization allows us to collaborate with specialists from other fields to provide the best possible prenatal, intranatal and postnatal care.

Furthermore, as our department forms part of the university hospital as a whole, the department is involved in training future doctors and researchers through our residential training programme.

2º Hospital Privado con mayor reputación de España en Obstetricia y Ginecología

Our gynaecologists have special preparation for mammary pathology, gynaecological endocrinology and fertility, urinary incontinence and pelvic floor treatments, as well as malignant gynaecological diseases".

We have the largest amount of technology in one centre of any Spanish private hospital. This guarantees efficiency and speed in carrying out procedures, both in diagnosis and treatments.

We are pioneering in the implementation of new surgical techniques and are both a national and international reference centre.

We have vast experience in high resolution ultrasound in prenatal diagnosis and adnexal masses which could relate to oncological processes like ovarian cancer or pelvic endometriosis.

For cancer prevention, although ultrasound is very useful, HPV testing and cervico-vaginal cytology, that specialists carry out in clinical genetics tests, allow for a more specific focus on personal risk factors.

We have more than 25 years´ experience in advanced oncological surgery for ovarian, cervical, vulva and endometrial cancer. Our patients benefit from our team´s oncological treatment plans: medical oncologists, oncology radiotherapists and pathologists work together to provide a quick and coordinated service.

We also have wide experience in laparoscopic operations for benign (cysts, myomas, hysterectomies) or oncological conditions. We now also carry out these procedures using robotic surgery.

When treating diseases that have a greater effect on a woman´s quality of life such as urinary incontinence or the pelvic floor, we have a multidisciplinary team of specialists dedicated to this area who are able to decide on the solution for the condition from all possible medical aspects.

Mammary pathologies are also taken care of in the Gynaecology field but in our centre, patients are treated for these conditions in a specific medical team in the Mammary Pathology Area.

For functional, hormonal and fertility pathologies, our specialists offer complete care which includes a complete endocrinological study of the woman, working together with endocrinologists and fertility with urologists who are specialised in the field. Our fertility treatments aim to resolve natural conception problems.

We are pioneering in microsurgical tubal repermeabilisation after ligation, as well as other non-surgical tubal repermeabilisation procedures which have caused sterility.

Additionally, we offer completely personalised and specialised prenatal and labour care, for both low and high risk pregnancies. A patient´s care during pregnancy is shared between a team of midwives who work alongside the medical professionals and assist patients on their arrival in the Pregnancy Ward.

For pregnancy care, we have a team of paediatricians and a Neonatology Unit which provides any required care for new born babies.

Our work has been published in numerous international scientific publications, due to our professionals´ skills and training in internationally prestigious centres.

In the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department, our patients benefit from our knowledge and advanced technology for treating the following diseases:

Diagnostic Testing

  • Gynaecology and Obstetrics Ultrasound: using the ´Doppler Effect´, we collect information about the speed and movement of blood. Ultrasound is one of the most useful techniques in Prenatal Diagnosis, with extraordinary developments in the last few years. High Resolution Ultrasound allows us to create high definition images which increase diagnostic possibilities.
  • Urodynamic Study: the study is carried out with very advanced technology and is one of the most modern ways of analysing the urinary system.
  • Sentinel node: the first lymphatic node tumorous cells come across when they spread through the lymphatic system. A biopsy of the sentinel node is a new advance in the treatment of some tumours. It provides doctors with more valuable information and carries fewer risks for patients than other procedures.
  • Outpatient Hysteroscopy: consultation or outpatient hysteroscopy aids diagnosis and treats the majority of intracavital uterine pathologies in just one procedure, leaving only very select cases for surgery.

In the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, we carry out the follow treatments:

The Reproduction Unit carries out multidisciplinary procedures to offer patients the best possible solution.

In this unit, they study and treat problems such as conjugal sterility, infertility (repeated miscarriages), preservation of fertility at risk due to antineoplastic treatments, amenorrhea (absence of menstrual period), polycystic ovary syndrome, hirsutism, premature failure of ovarian function, congenital uterine or vaginal anomalies.

Often, these are complex problems which require the multidisciplinary approach of a number of specialities (paediatrics, endocrinology, andrology or plastic surgery), this means the medical approach will be more comprehensive and offer the best solution for each patient´s case.

Thanks to the high specialisation of the imaging techniques used in our medical examinations (two-dimensional and three-dimensional ultrasound, Doppler study or sonohysterography) and the wide range of specific hormones, we can carry out a precise study of ovarian function, uterine pathology or tubal permeability.

We also carry out treatments with microsurgery for tubal obstruction, including repermeabilisation after ligation. Equally, specialists can carry out radiological procedures for tubal recanalization when necessary.
