How does our second opinion service

You can request your second opinion:

We recommend that, before starting the application, you collect all the medical and administrative information to be attached. Your doctor can provide you with an up-to-date summary of your medical history that includes your current treatment. The clinical documentation you send (medical reports, analyses, imaging tests, etc.) must be in Spanish or English to facilitate its review by the specialist.

In addition, you must collect all the imaging studies that have been performed for diagnostic purposes (MRI, X-ray, CT, etc.) and the results of recent analytics. It is also advisable to have your ID or passport at hand, and other additional documents that you deem appropriate for consultation.

In the application itself you will be given access to the "Patient Area". This is a free service that allows patients to: 

  • Access part of their medical history (reports, treatments, etc.) through the web.
  • Send, online, the documentation they need, at any time.

The clinical documentation you send (medical reports, analyses, imaging tests, etc.) must be in spanish or english to facilitate its review by the specialist.

There are two ways in which you can send us the documentation.

This is the documentation you will need to submit:

Medical Documentation:

Second opinion:

  • Latest medical documentation.
  • Images of the latest diagnostic tests performed.

Second Opinion Oncology:

  • Evolutionary report (issued by your oncologist detailing personal, medical-surgical, family history, toxic habits, current medication and where the oncological process is summarized in which the diagnosis/clinical judgment is indicated, the evolution of the disease and the treatments proposed and/or received).
  • Images of the last diagnostic tests performed.

Administrative documentation:

  • Image of ID card or passport.
  • In case the applicant is not the patient himself/herself, photocopy of the document that accredits the condition of person entitled to request the Second Opinion, always accompanied by a photocopy of the ID card of the patient and the applicant.

Please have this documentation ready in advance as it is important that you have all the necessary medical and administrative information ready.

It is advisable that you have read the documentation as it is necessary to sign it in order to start the Second Opinion Consultation.

When uploading the documentation online you will be offered the possibility to do so at the end of the contract or later, through your Patient Area.

The documentation is registered at the Clinic and delivered for analysis to the specialist of the pathology that motivated the consultation, who will analyze your case.

A second opinion from an experienced and impartial medical professional can help you face a difficult situation with greater confidence and allow you to make a decision having learned about all treatment options.

Based on the information provided, a second opinion:

  • It will confirm your diagnosis.
  • They will review your current treatment plan.
  • It will give recommendations and / or suggestions on a possible treatment plan at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra or with your usual healthcare provider.

The Clinic undertakes to send you within 72 hours*, the result of the Second Opinion Consultation together with the documentation originally provided.

If you have requested it, you will also be sent the username and password to access the Patient Area, which will allow you to access your medical history in the Clinica through the web.

Within 2 or 3 days, the specialist who has carried out the assessment will contact you to resolve any questions or concerns you have about the information sent.

If you wish, you may attend a free face-to-face consultation with the specialist*.

*The consultation will be free of charge up to 3 months after the request for the second opinion.

Frequently Asked Questions

You do not need a referral from your regular doctor for a Second Opinion Consult.

The Second Opinion Consult is carried out by a multidisciplinary team and includes the preparation of a medical report, with the objectives of providing the best diagnosis, seeking the best treatment and, if necessary, assessing whether there is the possibility of taking part in any of the Clinic's active clinical trials.

Some insurances do cover the Second Opinion Consult.

  • The patients themselves if they are over 16 years of age.
  • The legal guardian, in the case of minors under 16 years of age, or the patient's legal representative in the case of the patient being legally incapacitated.

The Second Opinion Consultation is priced at €550. Currently, due to the launch of the new programme, the price is €390.

This amount is paid when requesting the service, and includes the medical assessment, transport of the documentation, and a call from the specialist for clarification.

Once the payment has been confirmed, with the details provided in the application form, the clinic will collect the medical documentation in order to carry out the assessment.

You can do this through the Clinic's online platform.

All necessary courier deliveries are included in the cost of the service, so you do not have to pay for anything else.

In the event that the Clinic's specialist is unable to make an assessment with the documentation provided, we will request the necessary data to be able to do so.

In any case, if the specialist is unable to make a definitive assessment, the applicant will be refunded the full amount of the application.

The document generated by the Clinic is exclusively for information purposes and is not valid as a medical report.

It is necessary for the specialist to see the patient in person in order to generate a valid medical report.

The price of the Second Opinion includes, if the patient requests it, a face-to-face consultation with the specialist*.

*The consultation will be free of charge up to 3 months after the request for the second opinion.

All documentation received by the Clinic is digitised and stored in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act.

If the applicant, after receiving the Second Opinion document, wishes to make an appointment with one of the Clinic's specialists, a date will be offered as soon as possible, with the aim of arranging it within a maximum period of one week, although this is always subject to the conditions and needs of the patient.

We will also help you to arrange your travel and accommodation if needed.

In any case, the cost of the Second Opinion Consultation will be deducted from the first invoice issued in the patient's name.

The Patient's Area is a section of the Clinic's website, through which patients can access their medical records.

From the Patient's Area you can consult:

  • Your medical reports.
  • Appointment schedule: appointment plan, preparation of diagnostic tests and treatments.
  • Health and care advice about your disease.
  • Invoices.
  • Messaging with your doctor for some pathologies.
