We have a brachytherapy unit of high and low-dose-rate radiation therapy for patients with cancer.

This technique consists of implanting radioactive material directly on or near the tumour, which allows a higher dosage to be used in smaller areas and thus reduce the treatment exposure time.

The low-dose-rate (LDR) implants remain in the body for hours or days, while high-dose-rate (HDR) implants stay in the body for only a few minutes during each treatment.

Currently there are more than 20 active protocols applicable to different types of tumours, highlighting its role in the treatment tumours and soft-tissue sarcomas.

Procedimiento exclusivo de irradiación parcial precoz para pacientes con cáncer de mama. Un equipo de la Clínica Universidad de Navarra ha desarrollado un tipo de procedimiento de irradiación parcial precoz para pacientes con esta patología que es aplicado únicamente en España por este centro médico. La técnica, denominada braquiterapia postoperatoria parcial acelerada, consiste en la irradiación parcial de la mama gracias a la implantación de catéteres de forma mínimamente invasiva en el mismo acto quirúrgico en el que se extirpa el tumor. Con esta técnica se consigue reducir el tiempo de radiación de 6 semanas a 5 días.
