HIFU, high intensity focused ultrasound

Neurosurgery | Urology

Cutting-edge technology

We continuously improve our technology, as we are clear that technology and research means new opportunities for our patients.

HIFU high intensity focused ultrasound equipment works like a magnifying glass in which the sun's rays converge to concentrate the heat on one point. This technology captures the heat from thousands of ultrasound beams and concentrates it on a target: the group of neurons involved in the tremor.

This non-invasive procedure does not need to be performed in the operating theatre, but is carried out in the radio frequency room. There, the patient is awake and only a sterotaxy frame is placed on the head and a plastic membrane containing water to cool and not damage the skin.

Once the surgical target is located on the resonance, the neurosurgeon begins to apply the ultrasounds, which will increase in intensity, depending on the patient's improvement, until the maximum effect is achieved.
