The Brachytherapy Unit

Radiation Oncology

Cutting-edge technology

We continuously improve our technology, as we are clear that technology and research means new opportunities for our patients.

We have a high and low dose rate brachytherapy unit for radiotherapy treatment of cancer patients.

This technique consists of implanting radioactive material directly or close to the tumour, which allows a higher dose to be used in smaller areas and thus reduces the time of exposure to the treatment.

Low-dose implants (LDR) remain in the body for hours or days, while high-dose implants (HRD) remain in the body for only a few minutes during each treatment.

There are currently more than 20 active protocols applicable to different types of tumours, highlighting their role in the treatment of prostate and breast tumours, gynaecological tumours and soft tissue sarcomas.
