Biosafety Laboratory Level 3
Microbiology
Cutting-edge technology
We continuously improve our technology, as we are clear that technology and research means new opportunities for our patients.
The Clinic's Microbiology Service has one of the first biosafety laboratories with level 3 (BL3) within its facilities, which allows the treatment of biological agents that cause diseases that are potentially mortal for humans.
Within the biological safety measures required in this type of facility, the BL3 laboratory of the Clinical Microbiology Service has been designed in accordance with Canadian legislation, one of the most advanced and safest in the world.
The laboratory's activity is focused on the isolation and culture of group 3 biological agents (according to RD 664/97), their identification and the study of anti-infective agents (treatment).
Some of the microorganisms processed in BL3 laboratories are those that cause avian influenza, anthrax, tuberculosis, Malta fever, dengue, HIV or mad cow disease.
