centre of excellence forObesity Surgery
In 2011, the Clínica Universidad de Navarra was accredited as a Centre of Excellence for Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery by the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), the most prestigious institution in the world for this speciality.
The Clínica is one of the 14 centres in Europe that has received this award to date. The objective of the certification is to recognise the safety that the centre offers in surgical treatments for obesity.
The Clínica Universidad de Navarra has been awarded twice as not only has the hospital itself been recognised but also our specialist surgeon, Doctor Fernando Rotellar Sastre.
The European Accreditation Council for Bariatric Surgery (EAC-BS) studies the institution ́s work and rates surgeons based on their experience, "in order to guarantee a safe and efficient treatment for morbidly obese patients or patients with other metabolic problems that can be treated through surgery, like type 2 diabetes", explains the organisation.
The objective of the certification is to "guarantee safety and high quality services for severely obese patients from around the world, whilst at the same time, encouraging health service providers to improve their treatments in order to reach the next level of excellency".
