Professional career

Medical degree (1990) from the University of the Basque Country and PhD in Medicine and Surgery (1999) from the University of Navarra. Specialist in Urology at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, 1995-99.

He completed training stays in the Department of Urology at the University of Miami (USA, 1999) with the “Urology & Teaching” grant, at the University of Strasbourg (France, 2003- 2004) (Diplôme d´Université de Chirurgie Laparoscopique), and at the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery and the University of Cáceres (2005) with the Spanish Association of Urology grant.

Head of the Urology Section at Manacor Hospital, Mallorca (2007- 2012). Co-lead of the Advanced Urologic Laparoscopy Unit (UNILAURO) in the Balearic Islands.

Implementation of the urologic laparoscopic program in public and private clinical practice: nephrectomy (2004), prostatectomy and adrenal surgery (2005), cystectomy and partial nephrectomy (2006), and LESS nephrectomy (2010). 

Training certificate in the operation of the “Da Vinci” robot (2013).

Clinical Consultant in the Department of Urology since January 2013.

RESEARCH AREAS

Principal Investigator in one clinical trial and co-investigator in 11 on benign prostatic hyperplasia, overactive bladder, prostate cancer, and surgical techniques.

AREAS OF INTEREST

  • Laparoscopic, oncologic, minimally invasive, and reconstructive urologic surgery.
  • New technologies (prostatic KTP “greenlight” laser and robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery with the “Da Vinci” system).
  • Kidney transplantation.
