Professional career
PharmD (1990) and PhD (1998) in Pharmacy from the University of Navarra. Board-certified specialist in Clinical Biochemistry (FIR) at Clínica Universitaria de Navarra (1996). Diploma in Public Health, National School of Public Health (1997). Radioactive Facility Supervisor certified by the Nuclear Safety Council (2012).
Specialist in the Biochemistry Laboratory at Clínica Universidad de Navarra. Head of the Proteins Section, Quality Delegate, and Supervisor of the Biochemistry Radioactive Facility.
RESEARCH AREAS
Her research lines have been developed in the following areas:
- Study of the influence of osteopontin on the development of obesity and its comorbidities.
- Evaluation of cholesterol oxides as biomarkers for cardiovascular risk stratification.
- Neuropsychological and biochemical study in patients with cognitive impairment and associated depression.
- Study of HLA-G and nitric oxide during pregnancy and its usefulness as a marker of pathology.
- Study of immunological tolerance factors in blood in oncology patients.
- Study of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase activity and inducible nitric oxide synthase in cells and their role in immunological tolerance.
- Role of leptin in liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy. Interactions in cytokine-mediated signaling cascades.
- Development of a methodological procedure to study mitochondrial function using stable isotopes.
- Monocyte activation in autoimmune disease.
- Molecular mechanisms of monocyte differentiation and activation in autoimmunity.

Activity
In teaching
- ANECA-accredited as a Tenured Assistant Professor (Profesor Contratado Doctor) in 2011; member of the Department of Biochemistry and Genetics, School of Sciences. Since 2020–21, she has been a faculty member in the 1st year of the Integrated Medical Curriculum, in the course From Molecule to Cell I.
- Previously, she was Course Director for Clinical Biochemistry in the 2nd year of Medicine from 2009–10 to 2021–22.
- Associate Professor from 1997–98 to 2011–12, teaching labs and lectures in the following courses: Biological Analyses and Laboratory Diagnosis (4th-year Pharmacy), Clinical Biochemistry and Molecular Pathology (4th-year Biology), Experimental Chemical Clinical Analysis (4th-year Chemistry), Biochemistry and Molecular Biochemistry (1st-year Medicine), Clinical Practicum (4th-year Medicine), as well as the Diploma in Specialization in Pharmaceutical Care in Geriatrics and the E-Menu Master’s program.
- Teaching Assistant from 1993–94 to 1996–97 in Special Biochemistry labs and in 1992–93 in Phytochemistry labs in the Department of Pharmacognosy, for 4th-year Pharmacy students.
In research
- She has collaborated on 19 research projects.
- She has delivered 11 lectures at specialty courses and conferences.
- She is a manuscript reviewer for the journal Advances in Laboratory Medicine (Avances en Medicina de Laboratorio).
- She has published more than 25 articles in national and international journals. She has contributed to more than 15 books and book chapters related to her specialty. She has delivered more than 70 communications at national and international conferences. She has two recognized six-year research periods (sexenios).
