Professional career

Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Navarra, where she completed her residency at Clínica Universidad de Navarra.

PhD in Medicine from the University of Navarra in 2003. Doctoral thesis: “Percutaneous extrahepatic portocaval shunt (PEPS) for the decompression of portal hypertension: an alternative to TIPS.”

She collaborated in the implementation of the Breast Unit at Clínica Universidad de Navarra.

Jointly with the Checkup Unit, she helped implement the “whole-body CT” program in 2002, having performed studies in more than 7,000 patients.

She worked as head of the Computed Tomography area from 2002 to 2008. Since then, she has been working as a specialist in abdominal imaging in computed tomography and abdominopelvic magnetic resonance imaging.

She has been a consulting member in Radiology since 2005 and a member of the management board of the Radiology Department since 2015.

Residency supervisor in the Radiology Department since 2015.

RESEARCH AREAS

  • She has participated in numerous research projects, serving as principal investigator in 2 projects, and in two national R&D plan projects of the ISCIII and the State Research Agency (AEI).
  • Participation in 12 clinical trials promoted by Clínica Universidad de Navarra with external funding.

AREAS OF INTEREST

  • Imaging diagnosis of abdominal pathology using CT and MRI, including hepatobiliary, urologic, and gynecologic areas.
  • Abdominal interventional procedures using CT.

Activity

In teaching

  • Adjunct professor in the area of Radiology and Physical Medicine at the School of Medicine.
  • Adjunct professor at the School for Radiology Technicians of the Government of Navarre since 2016.
  • Accredited in 2024 as a tenured university professor in the area of Radiology and Physical Medicine by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA).
  • Approval of three six-year research periods (“sexenios”) for the periods 1996–2001, 2002–2007, and 2008–2020.
  • Clinical tutor for students at the School of Medicine, University of Navarra since 2002.

In research

  • Author of more than 190 abstracts at national and international congresses, over 100 scientific articles, and 12 book chapters.
  • Has delivered more than 20 invited lectures and has taken part in panel discussions at specialty congresses.
  • Has participated in more than 100 abstracts at national and international congresses.
  • Has participated as an inventor in an international patent application for the use of irreversible electroporation in combination with immunologic adjuvants for the treatment of hepatocarcinoma.
  • She has supervised two doctoral theses.
