Dr. Carmen D'Amelio
Specialist in Allergy.
Primary focus on the assessment and treatment of atopic and contact dermatitis.
Professional career
Medical degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela (Caracas), 2008.
Specialist in Allergy and Clinical Immunology (Clínica Universidad de Navarra, 2015) and PhD in Medicine, Cum Laude, from the University of Navarra (2015).
To complete her specialized training, she undertook training rotations in the Pediatrics Unit at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA) and in the Allergy Department at Complesso Integrato Columbus (Rome, Italy) in 2014. In 2017, she completed a postdoctoral training rotation at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, in the Cutaneous Immunoallergy Unit.
She devotes most of her clinical practice to the diagnosis and treatment of atopic dermatitis and contact dermatitis, as an attending physician in the Department of Allergy at Clínica Universidad de Navarra.
RESEARCH AREAS
- One six-year research term (sexenio) recognized by ANECA.
- Principal Investigator on food allergy studies that have received funding through competitive national and state-level calls.
- She is currently part of the research team for the INP-20 clinical trial to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and potential efficacy of INP20 nanoparticle oral immunotherapy for the treatment of peanut allergy.
- In 2021, she led a research study among patients with a dermatologic condition involving dermatitis and its relationship with tolerance to textiles.
AREAS OF INTEREST
- Study of the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases in general, especially food allergy, the oral tolerance induction treatment, atopic and contact dermatitis in children and adults.
Activity
In teaching
- Since 2015, she has been an adjunct instructor in the Allergy course at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Navarra, and since 2017 she has been an adjunct instructor of Medical Ethics at that University’s Faculty of Medicine.
- In 2018, she obtained the Expert in Medical Ethics credential from the Fundación para la Organización Médica Colegial.
- Residency tutor, Department of Allergy at Clínica Universidad de Navarra, 2019-2025.
- In 2021, she obtained ANECA accreditation as an Assistant Professor with a PhD (Profesor Contratado Doctor).
In research
- Author of 18 scientific publications in indexed specialty journals; co-author of the book "Hoy comemos huevo. Guía para sobrevivir al consumo frecuente de huevo cocinado en pacientes con alergia a huevo", as well as more than 10 book chapters.
- Editor and co-author of the book "Temas de Ética Clínica para estudiantes de Medicina". Digital Reasons Publishing.
- Co-supervisor of two PhD theses: "Métodos diagnósticos en la alergia a kiwi" and “Use of the Nexkin DSPT® device for reading, measuring, and digitizing intradermal tests to study immediate hypersensitivity reactions”, within the Biomedical Research and Applied Medicine program at the University of Navarra.
