Professional career

Degree (1985) and PhD (1996) in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Navarra. Earned qualification for the development of research activities (1991), with highest honors.

Specialist in Digestive Diseases at the Clinica Universidad de Navarra (1987–1990).

Completed his training with a fellowship at the Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

Medical Consultant, Department of Digestive Diseases, Clinica Universidad de Navarra.

RESEARCH AREAS

  • Study on the usefulness of colonoscopy in the prevention of colorectal cancer.
  • Incidence of premalignant colon lesions in asymptomatic patients.
  • Role of oncogenes in colorectal carcinogenesis.
  • Characterization of Helicobacter pylori subtypes in patients with gastroduodenal disease.

  • Teaching during the Clinical Practice internships (4th, 5th, and 6th years) in the outpatient clinic and inpatient ward.

  • Participation as secondary investigator in six research projects, three of them focused on Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
