Professional career

Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Madrid (1994).

Specialist in Hematology and Hemotherapy at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid (1995–1998), completing his training at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston (1998).

PhD in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Madrid (2002).

Master’s Degree in Medical Management and Clinical Administration from UNED (2010).

Head of the Hematology Section at the Hematology Department of La Paz University Hospital in Madrid (2008–2022) and Director of the Hematopoietic Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Program (2012–2022).

RESEARCH AREAS

  • Holds two recognized six-year research periods.
  • Has participated in 60 clinical trials as principal investigator.
  • Collaborator in several competitive research projects.

AREAS OF INTEREST

  • Research on the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of lymphomas and lymphoproliferative disorders, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia and Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia.
  • Therapeutic strategies based on immunotherapy and targeted therapies.
  • Research on the prevention and management of cardiotoxicity associated with antineoplastic therapy.

In teaching

  • Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid (2003–2022).
  • Resident Tutor in Hematology and Hemotherapy at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid (2004–2005, 2016–2018).
  • Coordinator of the indolent lymphomas module in the Interuniversity Master’s Degree in Lymphoid Neoplasms (University of Santiago de Compostela and University of Murcia).
  • Director of the postgraduate course “Approach to the Diagnosis and Treatment of Neoplasms of the Lymphoid System” at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
  • Has supervised 1 doctoral thesis and 4 undergraduate theses.

In research

  • Has published 76 specialty articles in international journals and 28 in indexed national journals.
  • Has participated in 160 presentations at international conferences and 204 at national conferences related to the specialty.
  • Has contributed to 20 book chapters and co-edited 2 books on lymphomas.
  • Coordinator of the “Guidelines for the Management and Treatment of T-cell Lymphomas” of the Spanish Lymphoma and Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant Group (GELTAMO).
