Dr. José Carlos Súbtil
Specialist in Gastroenterology. Primary focus on gastrointestinal endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).
Professional career
MD degree (1990) and PhD in Medicine and Surgery (1999) with “outstanding cum laude” from the University of Navarra. He completed his Gastroenterology specialty training at Clínica Universidad de Navarra (1997). He completed training fellowships in Paris—with Dr. Laurent Palazzo in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound—and in Hamburg—with Dr. Nib Soehendra and Dr. Annette Fritscher-Ravens in EUS-guided puncture and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
Head of the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Ultrasound Section within the Gastroenterology Department at Clínica Universidad de Navarra, one of the pioneering and leading teams in this technique in Spain. He has performed and/or supervised more than 8,000 endoscopic ultrasound procedures, more than 1,700 EUS-guided punctures with a diagnostic yield greater than 90%, and multiple complex interventional procedures.

Activity
In teaching
Associate Professor for the course Medical Pathology and for continuing education courses in doctoral programs at the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra.
He participates in residency training.
He provides training in endoscopy and, above all, in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound to gastroenterology specialists from Spain and abroad.
In research
He has served as a member or chair of the organizing committee for various national and international courses and workshops dedicated to endoscopy, ultrasound, and endoscopic ultrasound.
He has delivered more than 60 lectures and presentations at various courses and conferences.
He has served as an expert in various endoscopic ultrasound training workshops both nationally and internationally.
He has published 9 book chapters and more than 50 articles in national and international scientific journals.
