Professional career
BS in Biological Sciences, University of Navarra (1990), graduating with the Extraordinary Award, and PharmD, University of Navarra (1993). PhD in Sciences (1993). Specialist Pharmacist in Radiopharmacy (2000) and Specialist Biologist in Radiopharmacy (2005).
He completed research stays at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, USA; the Bereich Zyklotron und Radiopharmazie, Radiologische Klinik und Strahleninstitut, University of Hamburg; and UCLA in Los Angeles.
Director of the Radiopharmacy Unit and Consultant in the Nuclear Medicine Service at Clínica Universidad de Navarra.
RESEARCH AREAS
- Principal Investigator for 19 competitively funded research projects supported by public funds (1 European, 5 FIS, 4 regional, and 9 industry–university collaboration projects), having secured a total of more than €6 million in research funding as PI.
- Principal Investigator of the University of Navarra Research Group “Radiopharmacy, radiopharmacology and translational molecular imaging” (RADIOMIN).
- Collaborating investigator in an additional 19 competitively funded research projects (5 European, 5 national, 5 regional, and 4 industry–university collaboration projects).
- Principal Investigator for 8 research contracts with pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies.
- Has participated as a researcher in 17 clinical trials and has received several national and international research awards, including awards for projects of singular relevance.
- Has participated in projects related to technology transfer activities to the productive sector (Science and Technology Parks, CENIT Project, RETOS Projects, Networks…) and EXPLORA projects.
- In the field of official project evaluation, he serves as an ANEP evaluator for research projects, as well as for other international (Uruguay, Belgium, the UK) and regional (Andalusia) agencies.
- Has supervised 7 doctoral theses defended over the last ten years (three more currently underway), 2 master’s theses, 2 DEAs, 3 Master’s final projects, and 6 undergraduate final projects.
AREAS OF INTEREST
- Preparation and quality control of radiopharmaceuticals labeled with gamma isotopes for scintigraphy and beta/alpha emitters for therapy; radioactive medical devices; and radiolabeling of blood cellular components.
- Production of PET radionuclides in the cyclotron, and production and quality control of positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals.
- Radiopharmacy regulations.

- Participation in teaching in postgraduate courses and continuing education courses accredited by the Spanish National Health System (SNS).
- Has been responsible for accreditation of the Radiopharmacy Teaching Unit and served as tutor for Radiopharmacy residents for more than 10 years.

- Author of more than 125 scientific articles (Q1+Q2 > 80%) with a cumulative impact factor > 575 and more than 4,100 citations.
- Also author of 12 book chapters, 3 international (lead author on 9 of them).
- Author of more than 200 communications at international and national conferences and invited speaker at more than 30 national and international conferences
