Dr. Belén Noboa Sevilla
Specialist in Pulmonology.
Primarily dedicated to the diagnosis, follow-up, treatment and research of diffuse interstitial lung diseases, including progressive pulmonary fibrosis and interstitial lung disease associated with autoimmune disorders.
Professional career
MD from the Universidad Central del Ecuador (2005-2012), with the degree officially recognized in Spain. Specialist in Pulmonology from the same university (2015-2019).
Postgraduate degree in Advances in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Diffuse Interstitial Lung Diseases from the Universidad Católica de Murcia (2019-2020), and a subspecialty fellowship in Diffuse Interstitial Lung Diseases at the Hospital Universitari Clínic de Barcelona (2022-2023). Official Master's Degree in Advanced Respiratory Procedures from the Universidad de Barcelona (2022-2024) and a postgraduate degree in Smoking Prevention, Control and Treatment from the Universidad CEU San Pablo (2023-2024). She is currently completing a postgraduate degree in Sleep Disorders at the same university.
She has practiced as a Pulmonology specialist at several hospitals in Ecuador, including Hospital Docente de Ambato, Hospital Pablo Arturo Suárez, Hospital Vozandes Quito, Hospital Metropolitano de Quito and Hospital de los Valles. Since 2022 she has carried out scientific activity at the Hospital Universitari Clínic de Barcelona, actively taking part in its Multidisciplinary Interstitial Lung Disease Committee. She has also completed training placements in lung transplantation (Hospital Universitario Reina Sofía, Córdoba) and pulmonary hypertension (Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, Madrid).

- Professor of Pulmonology at the Universidad de las Américas (Ecuador), teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Lecturer in the Pulmonology postgraduate program at the Universidad Central del Ecuador and in the Rheumatology postgraduate program at the Universidad de las Américas.
- Speaker, tutor and moderator at national and international medical training courses, conferences and congresses.
In research
- She has taken part in national and international research projects on smoking in patients with interstitial lung disease, progressive pulmonary fibrosis, quantitative chest CT analysis and lung function, as well as multicentre studies on interstitial lung disease associated with autoimmune disorders.
- Researcher in clinical trials and coordinator in Ecuador of the ESCLEPID project, run by the Interstitial Lung Disease Department of the Latin American Thoracic Association (ALAT).
- She has presented 36 papers and posters at national and international congresses in the field, including those of SEPAR, ERS, ALAT and ATS.
- Author and co-author of scientific publications and book chapters on interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary fibrosis, smoking and lung function; recent work includes publications on progressive pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial lung disease associated with rheumatoid arthritis, respiratory rehabilitation and six-minute walk test reference values in the Ecuadorian population.
