RESUMEN
Clinical guidelines for the treatment of mild acue biliary pancreatitis recommend performing cholecystectomy early. Notably only 23% of the patients had undergone cholecystectomy during the index admission.
Delayed cholecystectomy has been associated with recurrence of pancreatitis in between 33% and 63% of cases and a higher rate of readmission due to complications from the lithiasis.
