The Clínica Universidad de Navarra has the most advanced linear accelerators for external radiotherapy treatments.
This is the first Elekta Versa HD model to come into operation in Spain. Among the main advantages provided by the new equipment is a treatment speed up to ten times higher than that of any conventional accelerator, as well as a reduction in the number of treatments.
In addition, the Clinic has three linear accelerators for radiotherapy treatments. Specifically, two Siemens Mevatron Primus and one Siemens Oncor.
A linear accelerator or LINAC is a large device that remotely delivers high-energy X-rays to the patient's tumour region.
The equipment shapes the radiation field through a multi-layer system that modulates the radiation beam, thus reducing radiation to healthy organs and increasing radiation to diseased tissue.
