Clinical Optometry takes care of visual problems such as visual disability, legal or total blindness. These diseases imply an important reduction of central visual acuity or an important loss of visual field. This field also has a role in basic and visual rehabilitation.
Thea Clinical Optometry field also treats corneal problems and eye imperfections.
Orthoptics is the field in charge of eye exercises to improve some ocular defects. Orthoptics improves ocular convergence, ocular divergence, it stimulates or relaxes the system that focuses and moves the eyes.

This area treats patient that have an important reduction of central visual acuity or an important loss of visual field, but that have enough sight to handle themselves and be functional.
- Visual disability: Visual impairment that produces limitations to read, eat, walk without help, etc.
- Legal blindness (In Spain): It is considered when the patient in its best eye has a visual acuity of 0,1 or less of the visual field that equals 10º.
- Total blindness or amaurosis. There is no perception of light.
