Medical check-ups. Diagnosis at the Clínica

Extensive experience and the latest technology for a comprehensive and personalised revision in less than 24 hours.

A check-ups is a comprehensive and personalised medical review for people who have no symptoms but wish to know their state of health and for people who have symptoms and want to assess the repercussions of their disease on other organs. It is an efficient tool for the early detection and evaluation of possible disease risk. It combines both experience and technology for a full, personalised revision in less than 24 hours.  It is an efficient tool for the early detection and evaluation of possible risk of diseases.

The Check-ups Unit at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra is comprised of Internal Medicine specialists with the experience of more than 43.000 completed check-ups.

To carry out the check-ups, the Clínica has the latest technology for diagnosis, for the early detection of diseases and, if necessary, for the treatment of diseases.

One of the objectives of the Check-ups Unit is to identify diseases in time to avoid their development into more serious conditions. For example, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes [SP], obesity, COPD [SP], high blood pressure [SP], etc.

During the check-ups, the specialists can also diagnose and prevent other illnesses like diverticula in the colon, hiatal hernias and psychiatric and psychological diseases like mood swings, anxiety and stress.

Colon cancer is the most common tumour in Spain, in both men and women.

If it is found in time, it is curable in 90% of cases.

From the age of 50, it is advisable to do a preventative colonoscopy. If there is a family history of the condition, the specialist will advise from what age and how often it is recommended to carry out this test. Colonoscopy is also advised for patients who experience intestinal tract discomfort.

At the Clínica, we offer three types of colonoscopy:

  • Conventional Colonoscopy [SP] with anaesthetic
  • Virtual Colonoscopy capable of identifying 90% of clinically significant lesions in asymptomatic adult patients. The test uses radiology to produce the latest computed tomography image (CAT scan) to gain a complete internal view of the colon.
  • Colonoscopy with an endoscopic capsule (optical camera) - a non-invasive, outpatient method to examine the colon. The patient must ingest a capsule which contains two mini cameras that take images of the large intestine.

This procedure includes specific tests depending on the age and associated risks of the female patient:

Between 25 an 40 years old:

  • Medical consultation
  • Pap smear test
  • Gynaecological ultrasound

Between 41 and 50 years old:

  • Medical consultation
  • Pap smear test
  • Gynaecological ultrasound
  • Bilateral mammography
  • Additional breast ultrasound (If necessary)

A partir de los 50 años:

  • Gynaecological consultation
  • Pap smear test
  • Gynaecological ultrasound
  • Bilateral mammography

According to the specialist's advice, a puncture and microbiopsy will be carried out.

The objective is to detect malignant nodules early on, as well as bronchial diseases, emphysema, etc.

If lung cancer is detected in its initial phase, the cure rate can be up to 80%.

Main diagnostic tests:

  • Medical consultation
  • Medical background questionnaire
  • Spirometry
  • CT scan use for thoracic diagnosis
  • Sputum cytology
  • Annual CT scan

It is the third most common tumour in Spain and the third biggest cause of death in men.

It's recommended to have periodic prostate check-ups from 50 years of age.

Main diagnostic tests:

  • Rectal exam to observe any changes in size, consistency and uniformity
  • PSA test: the tumour marker for prostate cancer. The levels of blood in this antigen in healthy men are very low and they get higher when there is a disease affecting the prostate. Additionally, there can be high levels of PSA in other non-malignant prostate diseases, like benign prostatic hyperplasia or prostatitis
  • Prostate biopsy - when there is clinical suspicion of Prostate cancer, this is carried via ultrasound.
